Hey there Sean! So as I tweeted you yesterday, I have an idea for a skin based on some of your current ones. As you know, I use the Darkness skin modified on my site and have loved it so far. When the next game my site supports is released I plan to make a new default skin, and was originally considering getting a custom skin made, until I discovered the price. So instead, I'm just pitching the idea to you so you can make it for everyone. ;)

So, this idea takes ideas from Darkness, Seamus (with banner), and Breeze (with banner). From Darkness, it takes the border (which I really liked, even if it doesn't work properly in IE). I particularly like how you can meld the header image into the border. In Seamus (and I look at Seamus Light with the Border in particular as a possible replacement for my site), I like the way the menu tabs blend in to the currently loaded page (although I can't use that feature due to certain installed modifications and all my specialized menus). Additionally, from Darkness, it is nice that you can alter the side margins (like I have on my site)

I also like the setup for the Login/Facebook stuff on top, how it seems to fit more into the theme than Darkness (where it's just up there, easy to miss for some people for some reason). The theme footer is also better than Darkness, for the same reason. I like it better than the Breeze footer as well, because Breeze feels a bit too much like wordpress in the footer. However, I like how Breeze centers on the page, whereas in Darkness you can only have it start on the leftmost edge of the left margin. For sites that need to show advertisements in the outermost margin area the ability to spread that margin out is important.

However, what I like about Breeze is the social networking buttons and that there are different links in the header image which you can customize to feature different parts of the site. This is where my idea came in. My ideal header would be similar to this, but instead of these text links, I was thinking a kind of slideshow section. It'd probably be easiest to handle via an additional modification added onto the theme, but a way to set a small image area and a description, which when clicked on takes you to the link of your choice would be great for sites that do news or have major sections that they want to show off.

Lastly, and this is more of a regular feedback than anything else, but I like it that you are producing Light and Dark versions of your themes. I had to modify a fair amount of Darkness because it really fit my vision for my site, mostly for the coloring and backgrounds and such.

Ok, to summarize, the theme I would like to see you release would:
  • Have a graphic border that makes the header, login area, footer, and main content all look like they fit together somehow.
  • Flexible margin controls
  • A larger banner with social network buttons and a small text and picture slideshow portion for displaying features.
  • Multiple color schemes to choose from.

Hopefully I got it all. If you make something like this you can expect me to be one of your first customers for it. :)

Some really good ideas mate, thanks for taking the time to post this.

I will look at making a skin like this in the near future, I cannot promise a timeline though but it will be after the next 2 skins I am currently working on for vBulletin.

Out of curiosity, how is the vbulletin skin making going? Are there any new ones on the way, or anything like what I suggested here? If not, I might purchase Breeze and do some heavy modification for it. Oh course, some different color-scheme versions of Breeze might also help.

Currently working on 2 new skins mate which I will post a preview about soon.

Finally going to have about 3 months soon to focus on Bluepearl Skins and start releasing new skins.

Oooh, anything like what I mentioned on here? Now I'm going to have to decide to wait a month and see if anything is out or buy Breeze and see how well I can customize it myself. Unless you wanted to give me a hint over e-mail or PM to help me decide? :P

The next 2 skins will be non-gaming like Breeze and Eloquent, more directed at professional forums as I have had a lot of requests for this. But after that I want to release a new gaming skin with cool borders and a lot of what you requested above.

Gotcha! Ironic that I'm planning on using Breeze for a gaming site then :P I'm just going to replace the slot with that picture of a computer with a Featured Content slider and then redo all the backgrounds and coloring like I did for Darkness.

Time to become a paid customer!
